I have no idea how it happens, but birthdays end up being daaaayys of celebrations around here. I always start with a low key plan and next thing I know, our whole weekend is centered around it. But then again, why not, right?
Mattias is our hilarious 3 year old. He brings such joy to our family. Ah, we say that about both our kids, but Mattias is a surprisingly easy going 3 year old. It’s been fun to watch him develop into this little personality. Last week he invited our doctor to his birthday party. He cares a great deal for the regular people in his life.
He loves:
- play mobile,
- his tools,
- personal hygiene (brushing his teeth, spiking his hair, bathing, creaming his eczema, getting dressed),
- beer and wine and coffee,
- mowing the lawn with his daddy or any outside chore with daddy,
- church,
- playing outside,
- hockey,
- singing his heart out with Psalm Book in hand,
- his run bike,
- being a big boy and a big helper,
- playing organ with Opa.
He especially loves his daddy. I’m chopped liver if dad is around.
Here are some photos of our weekend (excluding parties). It was great to get some quality time with the boys before baby comes. The weather wasn’t the greatest this weekend, but we managed to take advantage of every opportunity of sunshine we could!
Taking newborn photos in the last number of months has been so rewarding for me. I have been smitten by every single one of these little people and have enjoyed capturing the love of these families! I’m so looking forward to holding my own little bundle soon.
This is Jake. Which happens to be a name on our my list as well. We are having a tough time agreeing on names.
Jake originally thought he wasn’t going to fall asleep. But we convinced him. He particularly enjoyed the fresh outdoor air! Bring on summer!
Thanks for looking!

soooo sweet! lovely photos!
My kids call him uncle B. And they adore him. And we’ve been calling Brittney “Auntie Brittney” for about 2 years now. And the kids adore her. It was pretty clear early on in their relationship that they were serious about each other.
It was an honour to spend the day with you two. To be invited to share in these memories. To be part of it all. I love how relaxed you both were, soaking in the day and letting all the careful planning comes to life.
A big thank you to my talented second shooter and friend: Andrea DeVisser. She is amazing and there are a number of images posted here that were taken by her.
Oh and warning: there are a lot of images.
Brian and Brittney opted for a first look. So much fun to share this extremely special moment with them.
Noah was earnst about his duty as ring bearer. I’ve never seen him take something so seriously. A very big moment for his mama. 🙂
Thanks for looking!

Amazing photos capturing an awesome couple on their special day. So many great photos! My favorite is the one of Brian and Brittney after the reveal where it’s through the tree branch, and Brittney is laughing, it’s just beautiful! Also love the one that is three up from that one, on the left of just Britt, stunning shot. Oh and the one of all the girls from the back, with one arm linked, and the other holding the bouquet behind them, so fun! Great work Karin! So fun seeing their images 🙂

Once again – perfection!! Beautiful pictures Karin!
The month of April was all about Noah. It started with his ‘mix up’ birthday party. We are unsure why it is called a ‘mix up’ birthday party, but the theory is that he mixed up his party by sharing it with his buddy Jaxon.
This year, his birthday fell on the Easter weekend, so of course, he also had a Louwerse family party. Plus a special birthday at home with just the 4 of us.
Nothing is more important to this child than relationships and friendships. He had outlined to me how it was all going to go. He wanted everyone over… I mean everyone, every boy in our church that he has contact with was on the list. Then a second party for our extended family specifically noting ‘the brothers’ (aka his uncles). Oh boy. You can understand that I was a little afraid that he would be disappointed.
The following week, I took the boys out location scouting for Brian & Brittney’s wedding. At the last minute, I thought it would be brilliant to make it a little photo session as well. At first he cooperated with my suggestions. Then he made his own suggestions and then it fell apart. But it was fun to follow him around and capture his moments and spontaneity.
These two boys are quickly becoming partners in crime.

In the NEW Surrey Public Library. This is a field trip in itself! If you have a chance, check it out!
Just a wee bit larger selection than our town library carries.
Noah was also honoured to be the ring bearer for Brian and Brittney’s wedding. I love how seriously he took the job. He was on his A-game and behaved SO well!

This year may just be the year of blossom sessions. I have a couple more to blog! I am loving them.
Jessica contacted me last fall already about doing a mini session with cherry blossoms so when it was time, we both were trying to find the right location. It turns out that it’s much harder to find a good location than you might think! Unless of course you’re in Vancouver, which seems to have an abundance of locations. I’ve been noticing some great locations recently though… so if anyone else is interested, I have some ideas up my sleeve!
Jessica has a gift for photography as well and has tons of fabulous photos of her 4 girls together, but I still love the last photo of the girls together!
Thanks for looking!
